On Thursday morning (11/07), the Air Force Command (COMAER), in Brasília (DF), held a military ceremony to activate the structure of the Air Force Cyber Defense Center (CDCAER), appointing Colonel Silvio Roberto Assunção de Oliveira Filho as its first Chief. The event marks a significant step forward in COMAER’s cyber security strategy.
The CDCAER was created to manage, execute and control all activities related to cyber defense within the Air Force. Reporting directly to the Air Force Information Technology Directorate (DTI), the Center is part of the Military Cyber Defense System, whose central body is the Cyber Defense Command.
During the ceremony, presided over by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Lieutenant General Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, the Director of Information Technology for the Air Force, Brigadier Engineer Sérgio Ricardo de Assis, highlighted the strategic importance of the CDCAER for the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). “The creation of this Center represents a milestone in the Air Force’s ability to protect its critical networks and systems against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. We are strengthening our operational capacity and guaranteeing the integrity of our operations,” he said.
The new head of CDCAER, Colonel Silvio, expressed his satisfaction with the activation of this new FAB unit, which will be of fundamental importance for the protection of strategic assets. “CDCAER is now a reality after years of intense preparation. Our goal is to expand the Air Force’s cyber defense capabilities, actively participate in operational exercises and guarantee the security of our systems,” he said.
Asked about the relevance of cyber defense for Brazil, the CDCAER chief emphasized that cyber defense is not just a necessity, but an obligation. “We are here to protect not only installations, but also information and the country’s strategic interests. With the CDCAER fully operational, we are ready to face the challenges of the digital future with confidence and determination,” he added.
The ceremony, which also marked the inauguration of CDCAER’s modern facilities, was attended by military authorities from the Brazilian Army and FAB, as well as civilians, reaffirming COMAER’s commitment to operational excellence and national security. From now on, the Aeronautics Cyber Defense Center is fully operational, working to ensure the sovereignty and operability of the Brazilian Air Force’s digital communications and systems.
