Marabá (PA) – Troops from the Northern Military Command are mobilized to support Civil Defense and the Military Fire Brigade in fighting fires in the Marabá region and other municipalities in the state of Pará. The Army has mobilized soldiers and various pieces of equipment – helicopters, tractors, water trucks, transport vehicles – to work in places like Bom Jesus do Tocantins, in the area of the Mãe Maria Indigenous Land, one of the most affected areas at the moment.
The materials mobilized by the 23rd Jungle Infantry Brigade support the firefighters and civil defence teams in both the logistical and operational aspects. The water tankers are being used to supply the helicopter baskets that are fighting the fire in areas that are difficult to access, and they are also carrying out the aftermath of the outbreaks along the BR-222 highway. At the same time, bulldozers are working to prepare firebreaks to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of preserved forest.
The Army’s support has increased the capacity of air and ground resources to fight the fire, with several firebreaks opened and the supply of more than 24,000 liters of water. The military is also helping to bring fuel to the teams on the ground and to carry out reconnaissance in places that are difficult to access.
These support actions will also be carried out in Tocantins, with land and river resources ready to guarantee the safety of the population and the Amazonian environment.
The 23rd Jungle Infantry Brigade is a strategic readiness force of the Northern Military Command, which has the means to work in partnership with Civil Defense. Fighting fires in the Amazon region reinforces the Army’s commitment to providing the necessary support to federal, state and municipal institutions in defense of the population and the environment.
