During Exercise Cooperación IX, organized by the Brazilian Embassy in Peru, through its Aeronautics Office and with support from the Air Force General Staff (EMAER), authorities from the Peruvian Ministry of Defense had the opportunity to be introduced to the potential and capabilities of the Brazilian Air Force’s (FAB) KC-390 Millennium, an aircraft operated by the First Troop Transport Group (1º GTT) – Zeus Squadron.

The event took place on May 16th, and included a brief technical presentation of the aircraft, given by the Commander of the 1st GTT, Lieutenant Colonel Bruno Américo Pereira. The meeting was attended by military personnel from the Navy, Army, Peruvian Air Force (FAP), Peruvian National Police and some foreign authorities based in Lima or participating in the Exercise.

After the presentation, all embarked on a local flight aboard the KC-390, manufactured by the Brazilian Aeronautics Company S/A, Embraer.

The Ambassador of Brazil in Lima, Sérgio França Danese, explained that the event took place, in a demonstration of transparency and desire for increasing bilateral cooperation in defense and security matters. “Brazil’s defense industry can advantageously supply Peru’s strategic needs, including the diversification of military technology providers and competitive and high-quality equipment, such as the KC-390,” the Diplomat commented.

The Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces of Peru, Army General Manuel Jesús Martín Gómez de La Torre Araníbar, one of the participants in the flight, thanked the Embassy of Brazil in Peru and the Brazilian Air Force for the opportunity made available to all, praising the KC-390 aircraft.

The Brazilian and Peruvian Air Forces are in Lima until May 20, together with Air Forces from ten other nations (Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, United States, Honduras, Panama, Dominican Republic and Uruguay), for the purpose of training the integration of air operations and multinational command and control (C2) in the face of natural disasters.

The multinational exercise COOPERACÓN IX is part of the roster of events of the System of Cooperation among American Air Forces (SICOFAA), in favor of the collective effort of the Air Forces in the American continent.
