Interoperability of the Brazilian and American ArmiesInteroperability of the Brazilian and American Armies

Louisiana (USA) – Operation CORE 24, held in the United States, marks interoperability between the Brazilian and American armies. The activities take place at Fort Johnson/Louisiana, at the US Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC).

The Brazilian troop is made up of a rifle company from the 52nd Jungle Infantry Battalion (52º BIS), based in Marabá (PA), and elements from the Battalion and Brigade General Staffs. The Brazilians are operating alongside a unit from the US Army’s 101st Airbone Division.

In the exercise, the Brazilian soldiers have demonstrated a high level of training and readiness in the planning and execution of missions, showing a high degree of operational integration with the US troops, a factor highlighted by soldiers from both countries.

Major Ezra Tatsumi, a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team’s Operations Cell, highlighted important aspects of the operation. “There was an increase in the level of interoperability indicators established at the start of the Rotations,” said Major Tatsumi.

Operation CORE 24 not only tested the troops’ individual capabilities, but also emphasized the importance of interoperability. With the participation of different units, the exercise provided a realistic and challenging environment, essential for preparing the military for real combat situations.

History

In 2021, the Brazilian Army and the US Army held Exercise Culminating in the United States. Following the activity, a cooperation program was signed that stipulates annual bilateral exercises until 2028. The exercises were called CORE, an acronym for Combined Operations and Rotation Exercises. CORE exercises involve troops from the Brazilian Army’s Readiness Forces. Military personnel from the visiting country are assigned to units of the host army.

This is the second edition held in the United States. In Brazil, editions have been held in São Paulo and in Pará and Amapá.
