The Aeronautics and Space Institute (IAE), in São José dos Campos (SP), signed a technology transfer contract with the Brazilian Military Material Industry (IMBEL) on Tuesday (13/08). On the occasion, the technical documents relating to the technologies transferred were also handed over. This is the second contract signed as part of IAE’s Project to Promote Innovation in Brazilian Industry through the Transfer of Defense Technologies. This project was approved in 2023 and makes various defense technologies developed by IAE available for transfer to industry.
IMBEL is one of the companies that has expressed an interest in absorbing some of the technologies made available. The process for establishing a contract between the Institute and industry has therefore been drawn up, so as to enable transfer within the project. If IMBEL sells the defense items to other countries, royalties will be paid to the Aeronautics Science and Technology Department (DCTA).
The signing was attended by the Deputy Director of the DCTA, Air Brigadier David Almeida Alcoforado; the Director of the IAE, Air Brigadier Frederico Casarino; the CEO of IMBEL, Lieutenant General Ricardo Rodrigues Canhaci; the Head of the Technical Sub-Department of the DCTA, Air Brigadier Eduardo Alexandre Bacelar; the Innovation Director of IMBEL, Colonel Thiers Lobo Ribeiro; the Internal Control Agent of the IAE, Intendant Colonel Paulo Marinho Falcão; and other representatives of the Institute and the company.
“This is an extremely important moment for the Institute, in which we materialize the return to society of what is developed at IAE, with public resources. By transferring this technology to a national company, we hope to foster our Defense Industrial Base in the expectation that economic and social benefits will materialize for the country,” said the Head of IAE’s Innovation Management Coordination, Lieutenant Colonel Fernando de Araújo Silva.
This is yet another milestone in innovation at IAE, showing that the Institute is fulfilling its obligations under the Innovation Law by carrying out these processes. In this way, it fosters industry and disseminates the knowledge already acquired in its research, contributing to bringing economic and social benefits to the country, with the possibility of financial return for its own projects, as well as generating movement in the triple helix, formed by the Government, Academia and the Defense Industry.
