Aeronautics Commander participates in the inauguration of the modernized Control Tower

The company NAV Brasil Serviços de Navegação Aérea held, on Monday (04/03), the inauguration ceremony of the Control Tower at Guarulhos Airport (SP). The purpose of the event was the presentation of the modernized Control Tower, which is located at the largest airport in South America, with a daily movement of 830 landings and take-offs, and a volume of about 50 million passengers per year.
The Commander of the Air Force, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, attended the inauguration, accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Lieutenant Brigadier João Tadeu Fiorentini; the Commandant-General of the Air Staff, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Ricardo Reis Tavares; the Director-General of the Airspace Control Department, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Alcides Teixeira Barbacovi of the Chief of Strategic Affairs of the Armed Forces Joint Staff, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Walcyr Josué de Castilho Araujo; and of the Director of Operations of GRU Airport, Admilson Reis da Silva, who were welcomed by the President of NAV Brasil, José Pompeu dos Magalhães Brasil Filho.
In his words, the President of NAV Brazil spoke about the importance of this moment. “It took 10 months of intense work, which had the support of the technical team from the Commission for Implementation of the Airspace Control System (CISCEA), and permanent support from GRU Airport, allowing a safe operation from the provisional tower, which, once again, started to run in parallel with the main tower, now to confirm the full operation of all its features and, finally, resume the control,” he concluded.
The new control tower is one of the most modern in the country, with the latest generation equipment, which guarantees greater safety and efficiency in air operations.
During the ceremony, the Aeronautics Commander highlighted the importance of the new tower for the Brazilian airline industry. “Today is a day of great importance for Brazil and, especially, for the Aeronautics Command. After all, this ceremony marks not only the successful completion of the modernization of the Guarulhos Tower, but also ratifies how successful and diligent the Brazilian Air Force is in fulfilling its mission of controlling the airspace,” he said.
Also according to Air Lieutenant Brigadier Damasceno, in order to maintain the operational standard, the FAB relentlessly seeks the optimization of resources and innovative solutions. “With this entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation, NAV Brasil has implemented, managed and exploited the Aeronautical Infrastructure for the provision of air navigation services. Thus, the inauguration of the new tower infrastructure is nothing more than the genuine work of professionals who respect the commitment. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the successful accomplishment of the mission for the safety of air navigation”, concluded the General Officer.
The inauguration of the new Control Tower at Guarulhos Airport is an important milestone for Brazilian aviation and an example of investment in infrastructure for the sector.
