Brasília (DF) – On September 20, the Brasília Battalion received a delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany, led by Ambassador Bettina Cadenbach, together with Minister Wolfgang Bindseil, the Defense Attaché, Colonel Bjorn Taube, and other members of the embassy.
The authorities were welcomed in a grand graduation ceremony, which presented the composition of the Brasília Battalion’s troops. During the ceremony, the Battalion Commander highlighted the strong ties between the countries and the current cooperation initiatives between the Brazilian Army and the German Army. He also recalled the legacy of the Catarinas, young men of German origin from the southern states of Brazil who joined the Battalion to perform compulsory military service between 1960 and 1990.
The delegation then attended a lecture on the Battalion’s history, highlighting the peace operations in which the Battalion participated under the auspices of the United Nations. The lecture also covered the unit’s operational capabilities and the missions carried out by the Brasilia garrison, as well as the peculiarities of the Army Police.
Finally, the delegation had the opportunity to watch demonstrations by military scouts and the War Dogs Section, which showed off the dexterity and skills of the soldiers involved, as well as the training of German shepherds in sniffing out narcotics and explosives.
The event served to strengthen ties between the nations and promote cultural and professional exchange, reaffirming the commitment to cooperation between Brazil and Germany in the areas of defense and security.
