The Brazilian Air Force (FAB), in yet another successful inter-agency operation with the Federal Police (PF), intercepted, this Sunday (02/02), in Amazonas, an aircraft that had illegally entered Brazilian airspace from Peru. The action took place under the coordination of the Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE) and resulted in the seizure of approximately 500 kg of drugs (marijuana and hashish).

The aircraft, model EMB-810 Seneca, registration PT-RFU, was detected by the radars of the Brazilian Aerospace Defense System (SISDABRA) when it entered national airspace. The FAB immediately deployed its air assets to intercept the aircraft. For the action, A-29 Super Tucano, E-99 and H-60 Black Hawk aircraft were used, in addition to the use of orbital platforms (satellites) to obtain intelligence information.

The interception took place at around 10am (Brasilia time), following the protocols of the Airspace Policing Measures (MPEA). Progressively, the procedures laid down for investigation and change of route were carried out. After being ordered to land, the aircraft made a forced landing on a dirt runway, about 80 kilometers from Manaus (AM), crashing into some trees.

Soon after landing, the pilots set fire to the aircraft and fled the scene. The Federal Police estimate that approximately 500 kg of drugs were incinerated along with the wreckage of the plane.

This action is part of Operation Ostium, which is part of the Integrated Border Protection Program (PPIF), with the aim of stifling criminal activity on the border. The operation takes place in cooperation between the FAB and public security agencies (OSP), as established by Decree No. 5,144 of July 16, 2004.
