Boa Vista (RR) – On January 9, the Catrimani II Joint Command, in coordination with the Government House, conducted a search operation in Couto Magalhães, in the Yanomami Indigenous Land (YIL), in Roraima. The operation took place in the Couto Magalhães mining region, with the aim of locating and neutralizing infrastructure linked to illegal mining in the YIL.
The operation involved military personnel from the Armed Forces and agents from the National Public Security Force (FNSP), who were transported by H-60 Black Hawk aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
During the operation, military personnel and agents identified and deactivated mining sites and destroyed various materials linked to illicit mining, such as an engine, refrigerator, water pump, supplies and camping items.
The operations are part of a strategy aimed at stifling logistical capacity and curbing the negative impacts that illegal mining has on the environment and everyone who lives in the YIL.
