From July 31st to August 2nd, the Santa Maria Air Base (BASM) hosted the Reconnaissance Aviation Meeting 2024 (RAREC 2024), which was attended by General Officers of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and around 80 military personnel from Reconnaissance Squadrons from all over the country. The aim of the event was to promote interaction between military personnel, exchange experiences and knowledge, with a view to improving the operational skills of FAB pilots and crew.
The closing military ceremony of RAREC 2024 was presided over by the Commander of Preparedness, Air Force Lieutenant General Pedro Luís Farcic, accompanied by the Director General of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA), Air Force Lieutenant General Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, the Commander of BASM, Air Force Colonel Daniel Lames de Araujo, as well as invited civil and military authorities.
On the occasion, the Preparedness Commander awarded the Brigadier Nero Moura Operational Merit Medal to the Commander of the Second Squadron of the Sixth Aviation Group (2º/6º GAV) – Guardian Squadron – Lieutenant Colonel David Dantas da Silva. The aim of the award is to distinguish air unit commanders, within the scope of the Air Force Command, for their conduct in support of their organization and the Brazilian Air Force.
In his speech, the Preparedness Commander highlighted the fundamental role played by Reconnaissance Aviation personnel in supporting the natural disasters that occurred in Rio Grande do Sul recently, highlighted the evolution of Reconnaissance Aviation throughout history and emphasized the importance of the event for the FAB.
“It’s a source of great pride for COMPREP and the Brazilian Air Force that we are meeting at RAREC 2024, because we value what is discussed here and especially the exchange of experiences between the squadrons of this important aviation. The history of major conflicts teaches us that those who have more information have a better chance of succeeding on the battlefield,” emphasized Air Force Lieutenant General Farcic.
At the end of the military ceremony, the troops of the Reconnaissance Aviation squadrons, commanded by the Chief of Staff of COMPREP, Air Brigadier Sérgio Barros de Oliveira, paraded in salute to the Commander of Preparedness.
