The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) Field Hospital (HCAMP), which has been in operation for more than 70 days in Canoas (RS), has surpassed the mark of 50,000 procedures carried out in support of the population of Rio Grande do Sul. This Health Unit, subordinate to the General Staff Command (COMGEP), plays an essential role in medical assistance, offering quality services and helping to strengthen public health in the areas most affected by the floods.

During Operation Taquari 2, the procedures carried out included consultations, examinations, vaccinations, dressings and many other activities, made possible by the unprecedented deployment of two Field Hospitals in the same region. This action was a direct response to the needs of the population of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the Commander of the Field Hospital, Medical Major Daniela Pacheco Carneiro, the specialties with the greatest demand have been, in addition to clinical medicine, pediatrics, orthopedics and dentistry.

“The Brazilian Air Force field hospital in Canoas played a crucial role after the floods in recent months. In three months, it carried out 51,661 procedures, relieving pressure on local hospitals and ensuring efficient and rapid medical care. In addition to the medical clinic, the great work of the pediatric, orthopedic and social service teams stood out, as they were essential in meeting the specific needs of the affected population. In addition to serving as a triage center, identifying patients with urgent needs, the field hospital has demonstrated its flexibility to act in various areas of health. To date, 10,887 medicines have been dispensed and various surgical and dental procedures have been carried out,” said the HCAMP Commander.

Since July 10, the structures of the FAB’s Field Hospitals have been unified, and services are being provided in the structure set up next to the Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital, daily, from 8am to 6pm.
