Embraer, a global leader in the aerospace industry, and the Brazilian Army signed a contract worth R$102 million today at BID Show, the National Defense and Security Fair, for the delivery of a unit of the SABER M200 Vigilante radar already in series configuration.
The process also includes continuing the technical and operational evaluation of the equipment and its future use in the Brazilian Army’s anti-aircraft artillery units.
The equipment uses advanced national signal processing technology to detect and track positions, aircraft trajectories and classify aerial targets, which guarantees greater autonomy for the ground force in relation to its anti-aircraft defense systems. It also has an integrated power generator, which makes it easier to transport, whether by land or air.
The Brazilian Army will be the first operator of the radar for low and medium altitude anti-aircraft defense applications. Its use by the EB should serve as a benchmark for exploring opportunities to use it for the benefit of the other Brazilian Armed Forces and export markets.
Embraer signs contract with Finep to continue development of the SABER M200 Multimission radar
Embraer, a global leader in the aerospace industry, signed a R$147 million contract with the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) today at Mostra BID, the National Defense and Security Fair, to complete the new technologies that will be used in the SABER M200 Multimission radar.
The transportable tactical equipment, optimized for medium-altitude air defense, surveillance and airborne early warning with identification of friend or foe (IFF) and military air traffic control, will expand operational capabilities with the aim of ensuring readiness for future air defense systems to be used on behalf of the Brazilian Armed Forces.
“Finep’s support for the development of the M200 multi-mission radar represents the continuation of a long tradition of support for the development of a family of radars by the Brazilian Army. The M200 Multimission Radar will be a fundamental instrument for building a Medium-Height Anti-Aircraft Defense System, essential for strengthening our country’s deterrence capacity,” said Finep’s president, Celso Pansera.
“The signing of this contract reinforces our commitment to developing equipment and solutions with high national technological content,” says Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “Counting on Finep’s support for this important step is fundamental to developing and maintaining greater autonomy and sovereignty for a strategic technology such as this.”
The SABER M200 Multimission radar is part of the Brazilian Army’s and Embraer’s Strategic Planning and has the support of the Brazilian Government for the development of genuinely national and independent AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar technologies, for use by the Brazilian Armed Forces and also for export.
