The Air Force Staff (EMAER), through its Seventh Air Chief of Staff, promoted, on May 17 and 18, the XV Meeting of the Multidisciplinary Group for Implementation Monitoring (GMAI), related to the F-39 Gripen and KC-390 Millennium Projects.

The GMAI is a tool for integrating the strategic projects of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), providing better management by the EMAER in the implementation of the projects in all their extension and, at the same time, optimizing the integration among the various Sectorial Direction Organs (ODS) involved.

The opening ceremony was attended by the EMAER Chief, Air Lieutenant Brigadier João Tadeu Fiorentini. All of FAB’s SDBs were represented, which meant more than fifty stakeholders participated in this edition.

The 17th was reserved for the F-39 Gripen. Besides all the technical, logistical and operational aspects that involve the deployment of the aircraft, the infrastructure works to support the operation of the new vector, underway at Anápolis Air Base (BAAN), were highlighted.

The Vice Chief of EMAER, Air Major Valter Borges Malta, highlighted the event as an opportunity and tool for updating. “The GMAI meeting is an excellent governance tool for our strategic projects, a unique opportunity to level knowledge among all involved actors and to anticipate the problems inherent to the implementation of complex systems,” he explained.

On May 18, the work was dedicated to the deployment at Anápolis Air Base (BAAN) and Galeão Air Base (BAGL) of the largest military project of the Brazilian aerospace industry: the KC-390 Millennium. The recent certification of the aircraft in its Full Operational Capability (FOC) version represented an important achievement, confirming that the project meets all the requirements defined by FAB and that the aircraft can perform all the missions for which it was designed.

The President of the Coordinating Commission of the Combat Aircraft Program (COPAC), Air Major Antonio Luiz Godoy Soares Mioni Rodrigues, spoke about the importance of the activity. “The debates that take place during the GMAI meeting are very valuable for COPAC, which manages both projects, contributing to the improvement of the process as a whole,” he said.

The Chief of Staff of the General Support Command (COMGAP), Air Major Brigadier Rodrigo Fernandes Santos, emphasized that “the presence of the stakeholders is an excellent opportunity to show the details of the logistics planning, as well as to better understand the difficulties of the operators, aiming at the progress of the projects’ implementation in FAB”, he concluded.

The event was also attended by all EMAER General Officers, as well as the Aircraft and War Material Director, Air Major Brigadier Ramiro Kirsch Pinheiro.
