The largest and most important meeting of the sector in Latin America takes place in Rio de Janeiro in April, and is expected to gather a record number of exhibitors and international delegations

Aware of the Brazilian potential in the defense and security segments, the international market is present at the next edition of LAAD Defence & Security, which will take place from April 11 to 14, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, gathering the main Brazilian and foreign companies that supply products and services to the armed and public forces of Latin America.

Expecting more than 250 exhibitors and 500 brands, 50% of which are international, LAAD Defence & Security 2023 will present the main innovations for the aeronautical and naval engineering, personal and tactical equipment, ammunition and armaments, optics and electronics, consulting, training and services, cyber defense and cyber security, counterterrorism, transmission, communication and positioning, emergency, rescue and salvage, access control and surveillance, forensics and forensics, and vehicles segments.

According to Sergio Jardim, general director of Creative Events – organizer of LAAD Defence & Security -, this edition will register a record participation of foreign companies, which consolidates the country as the largest South American market in the defense and security segment.

“The potential offered by the country in terms of business, partnerships and development of new technologies is undoubtedly very expressive. In the next edition, we will count on the participation of companies from all continents, with emphasis on the pavilions from Turkey, the United States and Canada, in addition to the participation of companies from countries such as India, England, Italy and France, among others,” says Jardim.

“LAAD Defence & Security is the event of the sector that attracts more foreign visitors, reinforcing the strategic importance of Brazil in the international defense and security scenario”, adds the executive, who also highlights the expected presence of an average of 40 thousand professionals during the four days of the event, including 200 official delegations with high authorities from several countries.

Brazilian Market

A study conducted in 2021 by the Federation Institute of Economic Research (Fipe) and the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), revealed that the participation of the Defense Industrial Base in the national GDP grew more than 8% in the biennium 2019-2020 in relation to 2018, surpassing, in 2020, the indexes of traditional sectors of the Brazilian economy such as civil construction, agriculture and oil extraction.

In 2021, according to information from the Ministry of Defense, exports from the Brazilian Defense Industrial Base (BID) will reach the amount of US$ 2 billion, generated by a sector that has 146 registered companies with a portfolio composed of aircraft, ships, cyber tools for data protection, radars, secure communication systems, and armaments, among other high-tech items.
