On August 17, the first of two samples of the Centauro II Armored Fighting Vehicle acquired by the Brazilian Army arrived in Brazil.
The second sample is due to arrive in Rio de Janeiro in the next few days, so that the technical and operational evaluation process can continue, which will subsidize a main contract for a further 96 (ninety-six) vehicles.
Acquisition process
The process of obtaining the vehicles is conducted by the Logistics Command, as part of the Armored Forces Strategic Program, with evaluations taking place at the following locations:
- Army Evaluation Center (Rio de Janeiro – RJ) and, subsequently,
- Armored Training Center (Santa Maria – RS).
- Barão de São Borja Training Camp (Rosário do Sul – RS).
Iveco-Oto Melara
Produced by the Italian consortium Iveco-Oto Melara and designed to equip the Land Force’s mechanized troops, the armoured vehicle has a high level of on-board technology and a 120mm stabilized cannon.
The acquisition will help the Brazilian Army remain a highly deterrent player, capable of inhibiting potential threats to Brazil’s territorial integrity.
