British Army contracts Saab support service for live training in OmanBritish Army contracts Saab support service for live training in Oman

Saab has signed an addendum to the ILT-D (Instrumented Live Training) contract signed in April 2024 with the UK Ministry of Defense (MoD), worth £20 million (SEK 270 million). The addition to the contract will enable the provision of equipment and support services for British Army training in Oman. Deliveries will take place between 2024 and 2025.

The contract includes the supply of Saab’s latest training and simulation equipment, including a high-fidelity system that replicates exercises realistically and accurately, ensuring that the activity is measurable and can be used to analyze and improve training results. The solution will work as part of the MD’s existing Tactical Engagement Simulation (TES) capability.

Saab technicians will also provide training services to ensure the availability and performance of the equipment at all stages. In addition, Saab will manage the Exercise Control (ExCon), including the captured data that will support the objective measurement of the training.

“We are pleased to continue our long-standing support for the British Army’s training systems, both within the UK and internationally. Interoperability is at the heart of Saab’s training and simulation solutions, and this contract will enable seamless cooperation with the Royal Omani Army and other key international allies and partners,” said Andy Fraser, Managing Director of Saab in the UK.

“This significant contract amendment further solidifies the strong partnership between the British Army, the Royal Omani Army and Saab. It demonstrates our commitment to providing world-class training for our forces, aligning with the evolving nature of warfare and the Collective Training Transformation Program,” said Simon Pearce, portfolio lead for training and simulation systems at Defence Equipment & Support, the contracting authority.

The British Army system can be deployed globally, offering the flexibility to support training in locations beyond Oman. Saab’s live simulation equipment integrates with other systems using applicable NATO standards.
