Region has been used for Marine Corps exercises for over 50 years
The Marine Artillery Battalion (BtlArtFuzNav) of the Brazilian Navy (MB) carried out, for the first time, several live-fire missions with the 105mm L118 Light Gun at the training area in Itaoca, on the southern coast of Espírito Santo, last Wednesday (04/12).
“The possibility of carrying out artillery firing in the Itaoca area is particularly important, as it provides the Artillery Battalion with another training area and, even better, makes it possible for this training to be carried out within the context of an Amphibious Operation,” said the Commander of the Marine Artillery Battalion, Frigate Captain Daniel de Campos Luterman.
The Commander also emphasized that this is an important milestone, which directly contributes to the readiness of the Marines and which was only possible due to the acquisition by the Brazilian Navy (MB), at the end of 2023, of a new plot of land in the region, significantly expanding the existing training area and bringing countless new possibilities.
It is worth noting that the Marine Corps (CFN) has been carrying out its main training in Itaoca for over 50 years, so the region plays an essential role in maintaining it as a strategic amphibious and expeditionary force. Commander Luterman also pointed out that the expansion of the training area represents a formidable gain for the training of the Fleet Marine Force (FFE) units, especially in terms of their ability to cause damage, since it will allow the use of real fire by various types of weapons and calibers.
“The area will offer even greater independence and flexibility in the conduct of maneuvers and exercises, contributing to the CFN’s preparation for the defense of the homeland,” he explained. In addition, he added that the possibility of using live ammunition in the area is of special relevance, since it gives this MB training area a unique characteristic, making it possible to carry out amphibious exercises, within a tactical theme, with the use of live ammunition from support weapons.
