Nilo (Colombia) – Between September 7th and November 4th, Sub-Lieutenant of Engineering Jefferson da Silva Lima, Brazilian military that integrates the Mission of Instructors and Advisors in Humanitarian Demining in Colombia (MIADH-CO), held the Humanitarian Demining Leader Course in the International Demining Center (CIDES), located in the Military Fort of Tolemaida, in Nilo.

The course, whose objective is to train military personnel from the Colombian Army and friendly nations to lead small fractions in minefield clearance work. Instruction is given on marking and signposting workfields, explosive artifact recognition, non-technical study, manual demining technique, and the use of metal detectors; and is supervised by the Organization of American States (OAS).

Sub-Lieutenant Silva Lima, the first Brazilian to take the course, was distinguished as an “International Honor Graduate”, a merit alluding to the student from a friendly nation with the best performance, according to his classification (3rd place overall in the class composed of 21 soldiers) and the evaluation of his peers and the faculty.

The participation of the Brazilian Army, through the Engineering Weapon, contributes to increase the operational capacity of the Colombian Military Forces in the activities of explosive artifact and antipersonnel mine removal.
