Brasília (DF) – The Brazilian Army seized more than R$ 1 million reais in materials used in crimes along the border strip during another phase of Operation Ágata. Carried out between March 20 and 25 in five municipalities in the state of Mato Grosso, the inspection and combat action against crimes along the Brazilian border was conducted by the 13th Motorized Infantry Brigade in partnership with various public security and inspection agencies from the federal and state spheres.

The current phase, called Ágata Jauru I, has inspected more than 2,400 vehicles and resulted in the seizure of illegal timber, vehicles and various equipment, machinery and inputs linked to criminal activities that amounted to a total loss of more than R$ 1 million to offenders. The Jauru Frontier Command/66th Motorized Infantry Battalion, reinforced by troops from the 44th and 58th Motorized Infantry Battalions and the 18th Field Artillery Group, acted in an advanced manner, carrying out roadblocking and control operations, disintrusion of mines, river, motorized, and foot patrols.

The actions were carried out jointly with agents from the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police, the Special Border Group, the Environmental Police, the Civil Police, the Mato Grosso Agricultural Defense Institute, the National Indigenous Peoples Foundation, and the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Natural Resources.

Operation Ágata

Carried out by the Brazilian Army in partnership with state and federal inspection and security agencies, Operation Ágata is an initiative that seeks to curb crimes throughout the Brazilian border strip. Previously, the Ágata Guaicurus I phase was carried out, which covered the border regions of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and mobilized units subordinated to the Army’s 4th Mechanized Cavalry Brigade.
