Brasília (DF) – At the end of June, Brigadier General Ricardo Luiz da Cunha Rabêlo, Chief of Peace Missions, Aviation/Inspector General of Military Police, visited the US Army Peace and Stabilization Operations Institute (PKSOI), as part of the exchange between Brazil and the US related to peace operations.

In a meeting with the PKSOI management, data was presented on the current peace operations in which the US is involved, the functional link with the US State Department was explained and possibilities for expanding interaction between the Brazilian Army and those US agencies with regard to peace missions were pointed out.

General Rabêlo had the opportunity to highlight Brazil’s work in United Nations peacekeeping missions, as well as pointing out the country’s strategic objectives in this area.

The visit was an opportunity to bring the two nations closer together on the subject, making it possible to visualize partnerships that can increase the area of capacity building, improving the preparation and participation of Brazilian military personnel in peace missions.

During the visit, the Head of Peace Missions attended a lecture by the Global Peace Operation Initiative (GPOI), a body that manages assistance programs to strengthen international capacity to conduct actions in support of United Nations peace missions. The lecture covered the agency’s actions related to the aforementioned assistance programs, as well as raising possibilities for expanding the partnership with Brazil in terms of preparing peace mission personnel.
