Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – The Army Evaluation Center (CAEx – Centro de Avaliações do Exército) – “Campo de Provas da Marambaia/ 1948” concluded the operational evaluation of the Thermal Imaging Monocular OLHAR, in the period from March 20 to 24, with specialized troops from the 11th Mountain Infantry Battalion (11º BI Mth), in São João del Rey-MG. Participating in the activity were military personnel from that military organization, engineers from the CAEx, the Army Technology Center (CTEx – Centro Tecnológico do Exército), and engineers and technicians from OPTO, the company that manufactures the material.

The objective was to evaluate the equipment, in infiltration tests in the mountain environment, by means of a rappel climbing march, in order to carry out a simulation exercise of the monitoring of the Region of Interest for Intelligence (RIPI – Região de Interesse para a Inteligência) along the route, where the occurrence or not of enemy activity that would confirm or deny an opponent’s line of action was verified.

On the occasion, the resistance of the military-use material to mechanical shock against rocks and soil and under low temperature between 18° and 20° Celsius was checked.

The operational evaluation of the Thermal Imaging Monocular OLHAR, in São João del Rey, allowed the Army Science, Technology and Innovation System (SCTIEx – Sistema de Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação do Exército), together with the Defense and Security Industrial Base (BIDS – Base Industrial de Defesa e Segurança), to test the equipment in extreme operational conditions, in the detection of personnel and military equipment, in order to meet the requirements foreseen in the context of the Brazilian Combatant Project (COBRA – Combatente Brasileiro).
