Brazilian Army and national industry develop modern satellite-guided grenadeBrazilian Army and national industry develop modern satellite-guided grenade

Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – The War Arsenal in Rio, in partnership with the company SIATT Defense Technology, has been working on the manufacture of satellite-guided mortar ammunition. The weaponry consists of a 120 mm mortar grenade, guided by GNSS (global navigation satellite systems), with a range of up to 10 km and a low error rate. The new munition’s high accuracy allows snipers to operate more safely, and provides better shooting accuracy and reduced collateral damage.

Experts from SIATT company monitored the execution of the mortar and ammunition project at the War Arsenal in Rio on May 29. The partnership with the Brazilian defense technology company is a strategic part of the Army’s Science and Technology System for the national production of material for military use.

The partnership allows the Army’s Manufacturing Directorate to count on the expertise of the national industry of more than 30 years designing, building and validating air-to-air missiles, anti-tank, anti-radiation and several artillery systems. The development of the satellite-guided mortar grenade will increase the operational capacity of the Brazilian Army, ensuring greater accuracy to the mortar shots manufactured by its war arsenals.
