Manaus (AM) – Technical teams from the 4th Area Telematics Center (4th CTA), based in Manaus, have begun work to enable the transfer of the operation of a sub-fluvial fiber optic network to the Telebras Operations Center. The initiative is part of the Connected Amazon Project (PAC), which aims to expand the reach of public policies for digital inclusion in the North region of the country.

The operational environment of the 4th CTA, including the conditions of the Metropolitan Network of Manaus and the management and operation of the Vitória Régia Network (RVR), was presented to a committee composed by representatives of Telebras and of the Army’s Integrated Telematics Center (CITEx), on March 14 and 15.

The technical teams exchanged information and visited the data centers of the 4th CTA’s Operation Division and the Connected Amazon Project, where the equipment for the system’s operation is located. On the following day they went to the city of Novo Airão (AM), to see the infrastructure of a PAC point of presence in operation.

Agreement between the Army and the Ministry of Communications expands the reach of the Connected Amazon Project

Brasília (DF) – An agreement, signed between the Ministry of Communications and the Brazilian Army, seeks to expand the reach of public policies for digital inclusion in the North region of the country, as well as to improve the capacity of strategic communications of interest to the National Defense in the North region of the country. The signing of a Non-Onerous Term of Use Assignment allows the use of part of the subfluvial optical fibers launched by the Connected Amazon Project.

The signing of the agreement by representatives of the Department of Science and Technology and the Army’s Integrated Telematics Center and the Secretariat of Telecommunications of the Ministry of Communications took place in Brasilia on March 10. The agreement also allows for the integration between the networks launched in the scope of the Connected Amazon Project and those that will be implemented by the Integrated and Sustainable Amazon Program, whose objective is to enable the supply of good quality broadband service to the population of the Amazon Region.

Connected Amazon Project

The Amazônia Conectada Project was born from the strategic need to connect the Brazilian Army’s units in the Western Amazon region. Through the deployment of optical fiber cables along the riverbeds, the Victoria Regia Network is a secure and reliable high speed data network infrastructure, to support the administrative and operational activities of the Ministry of Defense in the region.

Besides the country’s defense actions, the communications network established by the project also allows other federal, state and municipal public administration agencies to implement public digital inclusion policies. The initiative allows the population of the interior of the state of Amazonas to be integrated with digital services, in areas such as telemedicine, distance learning, public security, traffic, and tourism.
