As part of the actions of Operation “Ágata” – Uiara Joint Command – troops from the Amazon Military Command continue to operate in the region of the Traíra River, in Amazonas, to combat transnational crimes. The Brazilian Army troops have already navigated on the Japurá and Puruê rivers, heading for Vila Bittencourt, where the 3rd Special Border Platoon is located.
Also, in the region, the Patrol Ship “Roraima”, of the Brazilian Navy, is carrying out Patrols, Naval Inspection and Patrols (land and naval) on the Jutaí river, and will continue towards the Solimões river. The movement of the military in the region seeks to intensify the presence of the Brazilian State in the border strip. Recently, a ship was seized with illicit material and illegal mining dredges were destroyed, demonstrating the operational and logistical capacity of the Armed Forces.
The “Ágata” Operation – Uiara Joint Command – coordinated by the Ministry of Defense, involves the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force in cooperation with federal, state and municipal agencies, as well as governmental agencies.

Seizure of 400 kilos of drugs on the border
Uiara Joint Command of Operation Agate carried out a large seizure of drugs in the early hours of Tuesday the 16th. During river patrols, military personnel from the 3rd Jungle Infantry Battalion approached three individuals in a speedboat. On the boat, they found about 400 kilos of skunk type marijuana. The boat and the drugs were seized and the suspects were arrested and sent to the Federal Police.
The action of the Uiara Joint Command takes place through cooperation among the Armed Forces in the fight against crimes in the triple border region of the Amazon (Brazil, Colombia, and Peru). The Command carries out air, land and naval patrols to combat environmental crimes and crimes related to the border area. Last week, the Command seized a boat and two dredges from illegal mining.
Agate Operation
The objective of the Ágata Operation is to combat trans-border and environmental crimes, as well as to intensify the presence of the Brazilian State on the border strip. It is coordinated by the Ministry of Defense and executed by the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army, and the Brazilian Air Force in cooperation with federal, state, and municipal agencies and governmental agencies.
At the Uiara Joint Command, the Armed Forces act in coordination with the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN), the Operational and Management Center of the Amazon Protection System, the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (FUNAI), the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Federal Police, and the Special Secretariat for Indigenous Health.
