Clevelândia do Norte (AP) – The Amapá Border Command carried out Operation Rochelle, from May 7 to 11, consisting of land and river patrols in the region of Ilha Bela, on the border between Amapá and French Guiana.

During the Operation, actions were carried out to curb cross-border and environmental crimes, such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, illegal migration, and illegal mining. The Operation is especially important because it is a region characterized by large demographic empty spaces, difficult logistics, and long distances.

The Brazilian Army’s operations were coordinated with French troops from the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment, employed on the other side of the border, in French Guyana.

Lieutenant Colonel George Alberto Garcia de Oliveira, Commander of the Amapá Border Command / 34th Jungle Infantry Battalion, commented on the operation. “This framework promotes the exchange of information and military knowledge and enables greater effectiveness in curbing these illegal acts. In short, the learning is mutual and these combined actions bring benefits to the military of both countries,” he said.

The military operation in Brazilian territory is enhanced by coordinated work with other government agencies, which is known as an interagency operation. Operation Rochelle integrated the Army, the Federal Police and Amapá’s public security agencies.

“By working together with other state agencies, we exchange experiences and information, and increase the tangible and intangible results of the operations,” added the Commander of the 34th Jungle Infantry Battalion.
