The Air Staff (EMAER) received, in Brasilia (DF), between May 8th and 10th, a Colombian delegation for the II Meeting of Talks between the General Staffs of the Brazilian and Colombian Air Forces (II REMFA Brazil-Colombia).

The foreign military was welcomed by the Chief of EMAER, Air Lieutenant Brigadier João Tadeu Fiorentini, who was accompanied by the Chief of EMAER’s 2nd Sub-Chief of Staff, Air Brigadier Paulo Roberto de Carvalho Júnior.

Together with Major General Carlos Fernandes Silva Rueda, Chief of Staff of the Colombian Air Force, was the Colombian Aeronautical Attaché in Brazil, Colonel Fabio Ospina Barón.

The II REMFA is an opportunity to strengthen ties between the Air Forces of the neighboring countries and to enhance mutual collaboration, with the aim of guaranteeing the security and defense of the nations in question.

The agenda of the first day was dedicated to the meeting at the Strategic Room of the EMAER, where the official opening of the II REMFA took place and the representatives of the two General Staffs spoke. Afterwards, several issues were discussed between the technical members of both committees, such as: perspectives of bilateral cooperation in training actions, sharing of strategic and operational information, and joint research and development projects in aeronautical technology. There was also a presentation about the Gripen aircraft project given by the Chief of the 7th Sub-Chief of Staff, Air Brigadier Leonardo Chaves Rodrigues.

Term of Commitment

The II Meeting of Conversations between the Brazilian Air Force and the Colombian Air Force General Staff ended on May 10th and was marked by the signature of a term of commitment between two representatives of the institutions.

The agreement was made to carry out a series of activities in the years 2024 and 2025, such as interaction actions between the Air Force General Staffs with a focus on surveillance and the presence of the Air Forces in the border areas of the Amazon Region, with the purpose of fighting cross-border illicit activities. Also planned are technical visits, courses, seminars, exchanges and exercises with the participation of various military organizations of both Forces.

Visit to COMAE and CINDACTA I

The Colombian delegation also visited the Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE). There, they were received by the Chief of the Joint Staff of the COMAE, Air Major Brigadier Vincent Dang, along with the Chief of the Joint Operational Intelligence Center (CCOI), Brigadier General Carlos José Rocha Lima; the Chief of the Joint Aerospace Operations Center (CCOA), Air Brigadier Francisco Bento Antunes Neto; and the Chief of the Center for Planning, Budget and Institutional Management (CPOGI), Rear Admiral Alexandre Veras Vasconcelos. The objective was to strengthen ties and promote bilateral cooperation between the Air Forces of the two countries, especially in the field of aerospace defense. In addition, the delegation also had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Space Operations Center (COPE).

The foreign delegation also visited the facilities of the First Integrated Air Defense and Air Traffic Control Center (CINDACTA I). There they were received by Aviator Colonel Dan Marshal Freitas, OM commander, who showed them the Area Control Center (ACC) and the integration with the Military Operations Center (COPM).
