During the ceremony, held in São José dos Campos (SP), MCTI and Finep signed contracts worth R$ 360 million with four companies for the development of technologies in the aeronautical and space sectors

The Aerospace Industries Association of Brazil (AIAB) celebrated its 30 years of work for the development of the national industry, this Friday, May 5, in the auditorium of the Novotel, in São José dos Campos (SP), in an event that brought together federal, state and municipal authorities, associated companies, and representatives of various entities in the country. The ceremony included the delivery of plaques thanking the institutions that contribute to the strengthening of the strategic aerospace sector and also the joint participation of Finep (Studies and Projects Financing Agency), which announced the approval for contracting the winning companies of two calls for proposals for economic subsidies for the aerospace industry, representing an important milestone for the Brazilian industry.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of State of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Mrs. Luciana Barbosa de Oliveira Santos, the Vice-Governor of the State of São Paulo, Mr. Felício Ramuth, the Mayor of São José dos Campos (SP), Mr. Anderson Farias, the Director-General of DCTA (Department of Aerospace Science and Technology) and representative of Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Ko Ar anitz Damasceno, Commander of the Air Force, Mr. Anderson Farias. Air Lieutenant Brigadier Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros, the Innovation director of Finep (Studies and Projects Financing Agency), Mr. Elias Souza, the director of Sustainable Economy and Industrialization of ABDI (Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development), Mrs. Perpétua Almeida, the director of ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency), Mr. Ricardo Bisinotto Catanant, and the president of the Aerospace Industries Association of Brazil (AIAB) and host, Mr. Julio Shidara.

AIAB, established on March 18, 1993, with headquarters in São José dos Campos, brings together and represents Brazilian companies in the aerospace sector, promoting and defending their common interests and objectives, both in Brazil and abroad.

The Association works with associations from other countries and is an active member of ICCAIA – (International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations), an institution through which the global civil aviation industry is represented at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in defense of its interests.
AIAB’s associate partners are involved in various stages of aerospace activities, from conception, development, production, marketing and after-sales assistance, as well as offering specialized technical services in various areas of the aeronautical, space and defense segments.

Economic subsidy of R$ 360 million

During the celebration of AIAB’s 30th anniversary, there was an important milestone for the aeronautical and space segments, through the Finep/MCTI ceremony alluding to the contracting of the bidders of the two calls for proposals launched for economic subsidies for the development of products and solutions for this strategic sector.

Finep, a public company from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), will allocate R$ 360 million to support the development of four structuring projects for industries in the aeronautical and space sectors in Brazil. The resources are economic subsidies for innovation from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and, therefore, are non-reimbursable.

In the aeronautical segment, the public notice for demonstrator platforms for new aeronautical technologies generated three contracts with the companies Embraer, Akaer, and ACS. In the space sector, the tender for the development of an Earth observation satellite was won by Visiona.

AIAB’s president, Mr. Julio Shidara, highlighted the importance of the projects for the development of the national industry and the guarantee of the country’s autonomy. “The contracts announced today represent a real watershed for the future of the Brazilian aerospace industry. They will increase the competitiveness of products from the already respected Brazilian aeronautical industry. With consistent investments, in about a decade, Brazil will become a global player in the space sector, an essential infrastructure for any country today,” said Shidara. “For us it was an honor to celebrate AIAB’s 30th anniversary together with Finep/MCTI, making official contracts of such relevance for the technological growth of the country,” he concluded.

According to Finep’s Innovation Director, Elias Ramos de Souza, “the support for structuring projects in the Brazilian aerospace sector demonstrates Finep’s commitment to the reindustrialization of the country, based on innovation. This way, it is possible to raise the global competitiveness of our aeronautical industry and ensure national sovereignty in strategic space technologies”, he said.

According to the MCTI minister, the projects will develop technologies for future aviation, which can be used for monitoring and surveillance of forests, rivers and seas, protection of indigenous lands, defense and public safety.
“The resources we announced are destined for the development of structuring and strategic projects, which will lead to the achievement of technological autonomy for Brazil in sectors that operate at the tip of the pyramid of value addition. It is by investing in technology and innovation and believing in Brazilian industry that we will find solutions to our problems and increase the competitiveness of our economy,” said the minister.
