Manaus (AM) – The Uiara Joint Command, composed of the Navy, Army and Air Force, advances in the fight against environmental crimes and crimes in the border area in another Agate Operation. On May 7, a boat carrying cash, gold, illegal drugs and ammunition was seized by the 2nd Special Border Platoon. On the same day, two dredges used in illegal mining were identified and destroyed in a shaft of the Içá River.

The action of the Joint Command takes place through the cooperation of the Armed Forces in the triple border of the Amazon (Brazil, Colombia, and Peru). The Command carries out naval inspection actions and air, land and naval patrols, aiming to combat environmental crimes and crimes related to the border area. The Operation intensifies the presence of the Brazilian State in the border strip.

The Joint Commander of Operation Agate Uiara, Vice-Admiral Thadeu Marcos Orosco Coelho Lobo, highlighted the importance of the joint work of the Armed Forces for the development and sovereignty of the Amazon. “It doesn’t matter if we are soldiers, sailors, or airmen. We are all equal and fight for the sovereignty of the Amazon.”

In the Uiara Joint Command, the Armed Forces act in coordination with the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN), the Management and Operational Center of the Amazon Protection System, the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (FUNAI), the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Federal Police and the Special Secretariat for Indigenous Health.
